For Schiphol Airport, we are looking for a Solution Architect.
Role:
Within Data & Analytics department (DnA) we need a strong center of excellence for data and data analytics. This is the driving force behind a data-driven culture, data governance, data quality frameworks, our BI function, and the close connection with IT on a future-proof data infrastructure. Schiphol is currently setting up a Data and Analytics Platform designed to accelerate the process of generating advanced insights for the organization. The emphasis of this process is on control and quality assurance of the data that is made accessible. One key objective of the Data and Analytics Platform is to offer data services to all parties that impact the journey of both passengers and airlines.
What we need from you as Solution Architect - Data & Analytics:
In addition, the Solution Architect is knowledgeable about and experienced in the integral coherence of Azure, ADLS, Kafka, Databricks, (Cloud) Data Warehousing, and handling event and machine data.

What we need from you as Solution Architect - Data & Analytics:
- Set up and maintain architecture models and architecture frameworks for the Data and Analytics Platform;
- Monitor the architectural principles of the enterprise and the domain in the development of solutions;
- Creating reference architectures in order to form the pillars upon which to build future projects, products, and architectures;
- Draw up architectural documentation;
- Work as a team player with fellow architects, developers and engineers and translate business requirements into a solution that can be implemented immediately and fits the architectural frameworks;
- Being a spokesperson and guardian of the current and future architecture;
- Align the architecture of the Data & Analytics Platform with other data platforms, environments and initiatives within Schiphol Group;
- Set out development and operations guidelines for the DnA department.
- Our Solution Architect - Data & Analytics has at least 10 years of demonstrably relevant experience in developing and integrating architectures and advising development teams, line managers and senior managers, with a focus on AI and/or BI.
- A Data and Analytics Solution Architect possesses sound knowledge of complex, data-intensive IT landscapes, agile software development, and business operations.
- The ability to advise on the construction of new digital functionality based on experience is essential.
- Knowledge of technologies, platforms and solutions in the field of data is crucial.
In addition, the Solution Architect is knowledgeable about and experienced in the integral coherence of Azure, ADLS, Kafka, Databricks, (Cloud) Data Warehousing, and handling event and machine data.
The following competencies are critical for achieving results: customer focus, ability to influence, analytical skills, innovative thinking, listening skills and result orientation.
Required Knowledge and expertise:
- Minimum bachelor level;
- Experience with data integration infrastructures and cloud infrastructures and -solutions;
- Experience with Big Data techniques and tooling (visualization, presentation, data management, collection and storage);
- Experience with streaming platforms like Apache Kafka;
- Experience with distributed computing platforms like Spark;
- Experience with Databricks and Data Lakehouse architectures;
- Experience with Azure’s data-related tools, like Data Factory, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, and Data Explorer;
- Experience with Archimate;
- Knowledge of TOGAF is recommended;
- A data or architecture related Azure certification is recommended.
- Team player who also encourages collaboration in others;
- Excellent communication, presentation and advisory skills;
- Organizational sensitivity;
- Good coaching skills to help the team reach its full potential;
- Experience with scalable data management solutions;
- Creative in coming up with ideas and solutions;
- Good spoken and written command of English and Dutch;
- Familiarity with agile working methods;
- Experience with one or more of the following: data modelling techniques, data management, data governance and data science is recommended;
