For Schiphol we are looking for two Data Analyst.


At the Royal Schiphol Group, we have established a Data, AI & Analytics department (DnA), tasked with accelerating our group-wide transition to a truly data-driven organization. This team also oversees the strategic use of AI, data and applied data science across the Royal Schiphol Group to identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation with new data products and services. The team is also responsible for data governance & quality frameworks, our centralized business intelligence function and the close connection with IT on a future-proof data infrastructure.

What will you do as a data analyst?

As a Data Analyst you’ll support Schiphol’s business areas by providing insights into the performance of their business processes. You will specialize in the operations domain (but work together with analysts in the other domains, which are asset management, security/safety/environment, group functions and commercial). By combining and interpreting data from multiple sources you will derive insights that help our airport function safer, more sustainable and more efficient.

You will work on a great diversity of datasets and data problems. To give you an idea:
  • Use occupancy and queuing data to gain more insight in the check-in process and hence prevent dangerous situations in the light of Covid-19;
  • Explore opportunities in the airside process for using data to improve on time performance of aircrafts;
  • Working with airliners, handlers, Day to Day operations and our process owners to reduce turnaround delay by analyzing process performance and providing fact-based advice for improvements.
Many of the use-cases you’ll work on have a direct effect on the Airport and its passengers and when you look out of the window from your workplace, you’ll see your work in action.

As a data analyst, you will work closely with business stakeholders and the team of data scientists and data analysts to:
  • Understand the business and the levers they can turn to optimize their processes; in your conversations with the business you help formulating the most relevant business- and analysis questions;
  • Manage day-to-day progress of your projects, proactively communicate with your stakeholders and work with experts from various disciplines to get their input or support;
  • Analyze requirements from the business and translate that into concrete work packages for the development teams;
  • Developing business and value cases;
  • Select the best data sets from a variety of complex data sources ranging from radar data to IoT sensors in the terminal; support in making data available and set requirements;
  • Create insight for the business, translate the insights into a comprehensible story to improve a business process, advice on next steps and uncover new possibilities based on your analyses.

  • Bachelor/Master degree
  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field, like mathematics, physics, computer science, business analytics, etc.;
  • Collecting and structuring the required information to set up high-quality dashboards;
  • Organizing and facilitating workshop with business experts to gather information on required insights;
  • Understanding how insights can lead to an improved business process;
  • Basic and broad understanding of data technology, like understanding the concepts of data engineering, data management, dashboarding, Analytics and AI;
  • Basic management skills, including stakeholder management, (agile) project management, expectation management;
  • Good social skills: interviewing and gathering requirements, storytelling with data, presenting outcomes;
  • Interest in the aviation sector and the complexity of an Airport;
  • A curious mindset and an appetite for learning new things every day;
  • Team player: strikes effective balance between independence and acting in the interest of the team. We’ll be looking for a real ‘click’;
  • Communicative skills: fluent in English is a must. Knowledge of the Dutch language is a plus;
  • Entrepreneurial, responsible and with a contagious level of enthusiasm.

You are knowledgeable and have experience with:
  • Experience with performance management concepts, like KPI trees and business performance conversations;
  • Experience in visualizing data and creating insights e.g. using dashboarding tooling or Excel/Think cell; some experience with python is a pre;
  • Experience in working with data and the tools needed to do so e.g. SQL, Python, R, Jupyter, Git;
  • Good understanding of statistics;
  • Experience with business, process and requirements analyses;
  • Experience with setting up business cases;
  • Preferably experience with Lean / Six Sigma / Operational Excellence;
  • 3+ Years of experience as data analyst.
